You can apply for this special permit if you can prove you have:
- heavy haul or specialty equipment that does not meet the standard configurations found in Schedule 2 of the Highways Act; or
- equipment that does not meet the minimum inter-axle spacing requirements set out in Highways Act Regulations, section 14.
Non-TAC configurations will be dealt with on an individual basis.
You can call ahead or apply online with all information about your weights, dimensions, destination and origin. Analysis might be required to prepare your permit, which can take up to 3 business days. It depends on:
- load weight;
- route; and
- dimensions.
Apply online
Before you apply for a permit, you must be a carrier in good standing with the National Safety Code of your home jurisdiction.
Before you start the online permit process, make sure you have everything you need, including:
- current vehicle details, dimensions and weights;
- route information; and
- a credit card to pay the permit fee.
Apply in person
You can get an overweight vehicle single-trip permit at the Whitehorse weigh station or Watson Lake weigh station.
When you apply for a permit, you need to provide the following information before the permit can be issued.
- Copy of valid vehicle insurance
- Copy of valid vehicle registration
- Valid driver’s licence
- A completed over-weight approval (if required)
In some cases you will need to provide the following. The carrier compliance officer will let you know if these are needed.
- Lease agreement
- Copy of bill of lading
Carrying dangerous goods
If you're carrying dangerous goods, you'll need a current Dangerous Goods Training Certificate.
