How to maintain a register of individuals with significant control of a corporation

As of June 1, 2025, Yukon corporations need to keep a list of individuals with significant control (ISC) of their corporation, sometimes referred to as beneficial owners. This improves transparency of Yukon corporations and helps prevent money laundering, tax evasion and other illegal acts.  Yukon corporations must create their register by June 1, 2026.

Individuals with significant control (“ISCs”)

An ISC is anyone who owns or controls 25 per cent or more of the corporation’s shares or otherwise has control of the corporation.

Who keeps a register of ISCs?

All Yukon corporations need to keep a register unless they are wholly owned by one or more Yukon First Nation governments, a municipal government or the Government of Yukon.

For each individual ISC, include the following

  • full name;
  • date of birth;
  • country of citizenship;
  • country where they are a resident for tax purposes;
  • residential address and an address for service, if provided;
  • the date when the person became an ISC (e.g., by purchasing the shares) or ceased to have significant control (e.g., by selling their shares);
  • a description of how the individual has significant control; and
  • the steps you took to update the information in the register

It’s your responsibility to let each person know they have been added to your register.

How to create a register of ISCs

You can use this template to create your register of individuals with significant control.

You must create your register by June 1, 2026. Once it's created, you must keep it up to date.  You will only need to provide a copy of your register to law enforcement, tax, and regulatory authorities upon request.

For more information, consult the guidance document.

How long do I have to complete my register?

Yukon corporations have until June 1, 2026, to come into compliance. This means you have 1 year to fully complete your register. You will be expected to keep your register up to date once you have created it.

Bearer form certificate shares

You will replace all bearer form certificates (shares that do not name the shareholder on the certificate) for shares with certificates in registered form where the shareholder's name must be on the share certificate.
