As a resident of Whitehorse or a surrounding area, you can register to be matched with a primary care provider who’s accepting new patients. You can also learn about how ongoing care works in the Yukon.
Eligibility
To use this service, you must:
- have a valid Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan (YHCIP);
- be 16 years old or older;
- not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner; and
- live in the Whitehorse catchment area.
Catchment area
The Whitehorse catchment area includes addresses:
- in the City of Whitehorse;
- on the North Alaska Highway up to Champagne Landing;
- on the South Alaska Highway up to Jake's Corner;
- on the North Klondike Highway up to Braeburn; and
- on the South Klondike Highway up to Annie Lake Road.
This includes Marsh Lake, Mount Lorne, Ibex Valley, Mendenhall, Champagne Landing, Golden Horn, Braeburn, Pilot Mountain and other addresses within these boundaries.
Find a hospital or community health centre outside the Whitehorse area.
You can access sexual or reproductive health support and menopause health support in Whitehorse without a referral from a health care provider.
Enrolling others
Adults can enrol their partners in the program. Parents or guardians can enrol their dependents under the age of 19. Your partner or dependents must live at the same address as you.
Register together to be matched with the same family doctor or nurse practitioner.

Longitudinal care provides continuous, relationship-based care between a patient and health care provider over time. We created the Longitudinal Family Medicine Program to reinforce continuity of care, accountability and strengthen patient access to care.

If your family doctor is part of this program, you may benefit from:
- greater access to same-day appointments for urgent, non-emergency needs;
- more consistent, ongoing care from your primary care provider; and
- improved coordination of your care over time.
Physicians in the program are required to:
- offer and advertise at least 2 same-day appointments for every day they’re in clinic;
- accept at least 10 new patients each year from the Find a Primary Care Provider list;
- maintain at least 500 patients; and
- provide ongoing, relationship-based care.
