Apply for a rebate when you buy a new electric bicycle

You can get a rebate on the purchase of a new electric bicycle or electric cargo bicycle.

Eligible bicycles

The electric bicycle must:

  • have pedals;
  • have an electric motor that provides power to the bicycle’s drivetrain and is mounted either at the bottom bracket (mid-drive) or at either or both wheel hubs;
  • have an electric motor that is engaged through the pedals or a throttle control;
  • not use any fossil fuels;
  • not be purchased from a crowd-funding campaign website; and
  • be purchased from a business operating in Canada. 

Electric bike conversion kits and motorbikes without pedals are not eligible for this rebate but may be eligible for the other e-transportation devices rebate.

Rebate amount

25 per cent of the cost of a new electric bicycle up to a maximum of $750.

25 per cent of the cost of a new electric cargo bicycle up to a maximum $1,500. An electric cargo bicycle has an extended frame designed to carry additional people or cargo.

The rebate includes the cost of the bicycle only. It does not include costs such as:

  • accessories;
  • shipping; or
  • assembly.

Rebates are limited to 2 e-bikes for individuals and 10 e-bikes for businesses and organizations, municipalities, and First Nations governments over the lifetime of the program.

Apply for the rebate

At the time of purchase

You may receive a rebate directly from the vendor when you buy your bike. In this case, you do not need to do anything else.

Vendors can download the vendor application form to offer rebates at the time of purchase.

After your purchase

If you did not receive a rebate at the time of purchase you can apply online or use the application form to apply by mail or in person. You must provide:

  • Invoices or receipts and proof of payment;
  • An invoice showing a Canadian address for the seller of the electric bicycle;
  • For cargo e-bikes only, technical specifications sheet or information from the manufacturer or retailer describing the cargo functionality of the bike; and
  • For bicycles purchased outside of the Yukon, proof that the product was shipped to the Yukon (e.g., delivery slip or shipping receipt).

You'll receive a rebate by cheque or e-transfer (Sign up for direct deposit payments) within 12 weeks.
