Apply for the health care and social services bursary

Changes to the Yukon health care and social services bursary

As we work with the Department of Education to transition our new application process through the Student Financial Assistance Portal, please check this page periodically for any updates or important information.

The Yukon health care and social services bursary supports Yukon students pursuing education programs related to health care and social services, including nursing and medicine.

The bursary supports students who plan to return to the Yukon to work as:

  • doctors;
  • nurses;
  • social workers;
  • allied health professionals; and
  • other roles that can be hard to fill in the health care and social services system.

As a student, you may be eligible for funding depending on:

  • your area of study;
  • the type of program you’re enrolled in; and
  • the anticipated needs within the Yukon’s health care and social services systems.

The number of new applicants supported through the program will vary from year to year, based on:

  • eligible applications; and
  • available funding.

Available funding

For 2026-27 the bursary awards will be distributed as follows:

  • In health care or social services: 4 new students will receive up to $5,000 based on their program of study.
  • In nursing: a maximum of 6 new students will be awarded between $2,500 and $5,000 based on their program of study.
  • In medicine: a maximum of 4 new students will be awarded either $5,000 for students in medical school or $7,500 to students in a medical residency program.
