You can appeal a decision made by a Student Financial Services officer to the Student Financial Assistance Committee. The committee acts as an appeal board under sections 10, 12 and 17 of the legislative authority of the Students Financial Assistance Act.
How to submit an appeal
- Contact the Director of Post-Secondary and Future Skills, Kirsti de Vries, by email at [email protected] or phone at 867-334-1174 to discuss:
- your right to appeal; and
- the appeal process.
- Write a summary of why you believe the decision should be appealed.
- Submit your summary to the Director of Post-Secondary and Future Skills by email to [email protected].
The Director will forward your appeal to the Student Financial Assistance Committee for review.
How you’ll participate in the appeal
The committee will arrange a meeting where you'll be invited to appear either:
- in person;
- virtually; or
- by sending a proxy or representative.
You must be prepared to:
- explain your position; and
- answer any questions from the committee members.
Receiving the committee’s decision
You’ll receive a letter from the committee chair by email. The letter will inform you if the decision was:
- overturned; or
- upheld.
The letter will also explain the rationale behind the committee’s decision.
