About open information publications

The Yukon government collects, creates and stores a large amount of information to:

  • deliver programs and services;
  • support policy development;
  • make evidence-based decisions; and
  • stay accountable to the public.

Open information includes publications made available by departments and corporations. This type of information is usually created in free-form text using common software like email, word-processing or presentation software.

Open information resources have been published on the open government portal since 2021, alongside the modernized Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP).

About open data datasets

Open data is structured information that anyone can access, use, share or build on.

The goal of publishing open data is to make public data easy to find and reuse. Datasets are published in machine-readable formats that work with data analysis software, data visualization tools or mapping software.

Open data datasets have been published on the open government portal since 2019.
