The Government of Yukon is committed to creating respectful, positive and civil online spaces. We welcome public comments and discussion on our social media pages when they follow the standards set out in this policy. Inappropriate, abusive, discriminatory, hateful or otherwise offensive content, comments or behaviour will not be tolerated.
Monitoring and response
We monitor the posts, comments and messages on our official social media accounts regularly.
We respond to or curate comments on a case-by-case basis when it’s appropriate. We do not guarantee an immediate reply. For urgent or confidential matters, contact the relevant department by email or phone rather than social media.
A reply may need a more formal response if a comment or question requires a detailed answer. We may share that response through other channels, such as our website.
When we remove, hide or report content
We will remove, hide or report any comment, post or message that:
- contains obscene language;
- contains language that is abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise hateful;
- engages in personal attacks or make defamatory statements;
- violates someone's privacy or contains personal information;
- makes threats or suggest a criminal act;
- advertises any product, individual, organization or other entity, or directs attention to another website;
- is a party political message;
- are not human-friendly (for example, they contain excessive links or computer code);
- repetitive posts copied and pasted or duplicated by single or multiple users; or
- are totally off topic.
Ongoing or serious violations may result in blocking the user from our pages. We may also report the user to the social media platform or law enforcement if required.
How we document violations
We keep a secure internal record of all content removed under this policy. Our documentation includes:
- a screenshot of the content;
- the date and time; and
- other information as required.
We keep these records for accountability and, where required, to comply with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Privacy and protecting personal information
Your comments on our social media channels are public. Do not post personal information such as your address, phone number or photographs of identifiable individuals.
Any personal information you share with us on social media is collected under s.15(c)(i) of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act for the purposes of maintaining the above policy and/or directing you to the appropriate resources as required.
Use of “like,” “follow” and share functions
Our decision to “like,” “follow” or “share” another account or content does not imply our endorsement. Sharing information means we think it might interest our audience — it is not an official stamp of approval nor an endorsement of its author/creator.
If you have concerns about content on our social media channels or questions about this policy, you can email [email protected] or message us directly on the social media platform.
