Identity documents needed to get a hunting licence

Starting April 1, 2026, you must provide proof of residency if you are applying for a Yukon resident hunting licence for the first time, or if you did not have a licence the previous year. 

You must show original documents that confirm your: 

  • full legal name;
  • date of birth;
  • photo; and
  • signature. 

We also need to see documents that show you:

  • are Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • are a legal resident in the Yukon for at least 1 year; and
  • have spent at least 185 days in the territory during that time. 

Submit complete and accurate documents to avoid delays. Licensing staff may ask for additional information if needed. 

Identity documents

You can use a combination of the following documents to confirm your identity: 

  • Valid Canadian passport
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • Permanent Resident card
  • Valid foreign passport with immigration documents
  • Certificate of Indian status (Status card)
  • Yukon driver’s licence or general identification card issued more than 1 year ago 

Residency documents 

You must provide a different document for each of the following categories: 

  1. Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  2. Legal resident of the Yukon for 1 year
  3. Have been physically present in the Yukon for 185 days within the last year

Documents that prove you’re a legal resident in the Yukon for 1 year must be dated from 1 year ago and show the current address on your government-issued photo ID. 

If you have recently moved within the Yukon, you may provide additional documents to confirm your current address.
