Residency documents for adult applicants

Starting April 1, 2026, you must provide proof of residency if you:

  • are applying for a Yukon resident hunting licence for the 1st time; or 
  • did not have a licence the previous year. 

You must show original documents that show your: 

  • full legal name;
  • date of birth;
  • photo; and
  • signature. 

We also need to see documents that show you:

  • are Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • have been a legal resident in the Yukon for at least 1 year; and
  • have spent at least 185 days in the territory during that time. 

Submit complete and accurate documents to avoid delays. Licensing staff may ask for additional information if needed. 

Identity documents

You can use a combination of the following documents to confirm your identity: 

  • Valid Canadian passport
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • Permanent Resident card
  • Valid foreign passport with immigration documents
  • Certificate of Indian Status (status card)
  • Yukon driver’s licence or general identification card issued more than 1 year ago 

Residency documents 

You must provide a different document for each of the following categories: 

  1. Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  2. Legal resident of the Yukon for 1 year
  3. Physical presence in the Yukon for 185 days within the last year

Documents that prove you’re a legal resident in the Yukon for 1 year must:

  • be dated from 1 year ago; and 
  • show the current address on your government-issued photo ID. 

If you have recently moved within the Yukon, you may provide additional documents to confirm your current address. 

Residency documents for youth applicants under 16

A parent or legal guardian must complete the application. The parent or guardian must bring their government issued photo ID to complete the declaration.  

If the above residency documents are not available for the youth, you may use the following:

Proof of identity and Canadian residency (only 1 required) 

  • Canadian birth certificate 
  • Canadian passport 
  • Permanent Resident card 
  • Secure Certificate of Indian Status

Proof of Yukon residency (only 1 required) 

  • Yukon School document (report card, enrolment, ID or attendance record) 
  • Yukon activity registration (e.g., sports or programs) maintained for a reasonable duration supporting residency in the Yukon
  • Employment, bank or service record in the youth’s name and Yukon address

Proof of address (only 1 required)  

If any of the Yukon residency documents provided show a Yukon address, we do not require this additional piece of documentation.

  • Parent or guardian photo ID showing a Yukon address that matches the youth’s address on application form

Parent or guardian photo ID 

  • Government-issued photo ID to complete the application
