Aerial photographs are the most detailed images available of communities and transportation corridors. The Government of Yukon provides aerial photographs and satellite images of the territory to the public.
Orthophotos
Some aerial photographs have been geometrically corrected. This means the distances are uniform and can be measured like a map. These photographs are called orthophotos.
You can view, download and print orthophotos on GeoYukon. You can find orthophotos in the “aerial imagery” layer.
Air photos
Air photo is another term for aerial photograph. Digitized air photos are not geometrically corrected, so they are different from orthophotos.
You can view, download and print digitized air photos and their flight lines on GeoYukon.
Visit the air photo library for more information about digitized air photos.
Satellite images
These images are photographs of the Earth’s surface taken from a satellite.
These satellite images are organized into 3 groups, based on their resolution or level of detail.
- High resolution, where you can see details less than 1 metre wide.
- Medium resolution, where you can see details between 1 metre and 5 metres wide.
- Low resolution, where you can see details more than 5 metres wide.
You can view satellite images on GeoYukon under base maps. You can print satellite images, but not download them because of licensing restrictions.
