What's the Housing Initiatives Fund?
The Housing Initiatives Fund provides funding for affordable rental housing projects across the Yukon.
There are 2 streams:
- shovel-ready projects in the Yukon; and
- project concepts.
Eligible projects must include a minimum of 4 affordable units in Whitehorse and 1 unit in communities.
You can combine the Housing Initiative Fund with other government funding programs.
Who's eligible?
- Yukon community housing providers including public or private non-profit housing organizations or rental co-operatives
- Yukon First Nations governments and development corporations
- Yukon municipalities
- Yukon private sector companies (must be in good standing with Yukon Corporate registry and operating for at least 2 years) and individuals (must be Yukon residents)
Application submission deadline
Applications for shovel-ready projects close on March 16, 2026
Applications for project concepts are accepted year-round.
Fund details
- Shovel-ready projects are eligible for up to $100,000 for each unit up to a maximum of $1,000,000.
- Projects concepts are eligible for up to $20,000.
- Units must exceed the National Building Code for energy efficiency by 25 per cent.
- A minimum of 1 unit or 20 per cent of the units must be barrier-free and built to accessibility standards.
- Units designated as affordable must remain affordable for 20 years.
- Funding for rural private homeowners constructing rental units cannot exceed 50 per cent of the project costs.
- Projects approved through the shovel-ready stream must begin construction within six months of their accepted application.
- The housing must be ready for occupancy within two years of signing the funding agreement.

Submit your funding application
- Complete the application form, including proof of Yukon residency.
- Submit your form to the Yukon Housing Corporation.
- In person: Yukon Housing Corporation office in your community. In Whitehorse at 410 Jarvis Street. Our office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
