Pets and service animals
Have a plan for your pets in case of an evacuation. Include where your pets will go and how they'll get there.
Evacuation shelters will only accept service animals. Plan an alternate location for your pets, such as a hotel, boarding centre, animal clinic or with friends. Emergency Support Services provides a modest evacuee living assistance which can be used toward pet accommodation or food, but will not coordinate or provide care directly for pets
Remember that pets need a 72-hour emergency kit with essential supplies, too. This includes a crate for each animal, vaccine records and medications. Use this checklist to prepare your pet.
The Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team has more information about caring for pets and non-commercial livestock in an emergency.
