The Government of Yukon mobile abattoir has reduced its operations and is not currently available for booking. We are providing additional support to private commercial abattoirs to ensure demand for services can be met.
Book a commercial abattoir
You can find a list of licensed, inspected and certified commercial abattoirs on this page. We encourage livestock producers to discuss their slaughter needs directly with private abattoirs.
New support for abattoir businesses and farmers
The activities eligible for funding under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership program (Sustainable CAP) have been updated to better support farmers and abattoirs.
Read the Sustainable CAP Guidance Document for more information on what funding is available, including the following.
- Sustainable CAP Abattoir Capacity Building Incentive Program: To support service delivery, strengthen local supply chains, and support resilience of the meat sector. The program provides incentive payments to private abattoirs for inspected slaughter provided for Yukon farmers.
- Support for livestock transport: Eligible funding increased for farmers located 100 km or further to transport their animals to commercial licensed abattoirs.
- Removal of Bovine Specified Risk Material (SRM): Abattoirs and producers can now be covered for the cost of mandatory special waste removal and transport to a CFIA-approved receiving establishment.
Back-up slaughter capacity planning for red-meat slaughter
The Government of Yukon is preparing an operational plan to maintain service during special circumstances without impacting business opportunities for private abattoir operators. Subscribe to InFARMation, Yukon's agriculture newsletter for future updates.
Other support for inspected abattoir services
The Government of Yukon provides the following services.
- Free meat inspection services in licensed abattoirs for both red meat and poultry. Meat inspection is required for advertising of the meat products and sale in a retail setting.
- Advisory and extension services to abattoir operators and farmers on operational and regulatory requirements around processing and sale of livestock and meat products.
- Funding support for abattoir businesses under Sustainable CAP. Examples of eligible activities include:
- infrastructure development;
- equipment purchase;
- food safety enhancements;
- staff training or certification; and
- business planning.
