Child car seat safety tips

Read your vehicle owner's manual to find out:

  • where to place your car seat; and
  • where the tether anchors are; and
  • which car seat your child should be using.

Before you install your car seat, read your child car seat manufacturer's instructions.

Make sure your car seat will accommodate your child's:

  • weight; and
  • height.

A child car seat has an expiry date, and it reduces the risks of:

  • fatality by 71 per cent; and
  • serious injury by 67 per cent.

A child car seat is a one-time use safety item. If it's involved in a collision, you must replace it even if your child wasn't in the seat at the time.

One of the most common mistakes is moving your child to the next car-seat stage too early. On average, 86 per cent of all child car seat installations are incorrect in Canada.
