Statement from Premier Pemberton and Minister Streicker on the Haa Ḵusteeyí celebration

Premier Mike Pemberton and Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker have issued the following statement:

“The Government of Yukon is honoured to recognize the biennial Haa Ḵusteeyí celebration, a vibrant gathering that celebrates the traditions, stories and resilience of the Tlingit Nations. This incredible event is taking place from July 24 to 26 in Carcross – the first time since 2019.

“Deeply rooted in Tlingit cultures, Haa Ḵusteeyí – meaning 'our way of life' – brings together Elders, youth, artists, dancers, families, community members and visitors for a festival of language, art, storytelling, canoe culture, live performances, workshops and shared feasts.

“This celebration would not be possible without the tireless work of this year’s host, the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, as well as the Teslin Tlingit Council, the Taku River Tlingit First Nation and countless volunteers.

“Thank you to the Carcross/Tagish First Nation for opening your community of Carcross to family, friends and visitors to honour the past and celebrate the knowledge, language, art and enduring connection to the land of the Tlingit Peoples.

“Gatherings such as this enable us to honour and strengthen the diverse cultural traditions that make the Yukon such a remarkable place. We are excited to join you in celebration and we wish all who attend a wonderful and meaningful time."
