Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker has issued the following statement:
“Canada Historic Places Days is taking place from July 11 to 20. This annual campaign highlights the importance and recognition of historic sites. Coordinated by the National Trust for Canada, hundreds of sites across the country will host special events and activities throughout the week to celebrate the nation’s diverse heritage and history.
“To mark this occasion, the Government of Yukon, in partnership with the Yukon Heritage Resources Board, is hosting a free event at the Robinson Roadhouse historic site from noon to 3 pm on Saturday, July 12. There will be a barbecue, live music and site tours in English. All are welcome to join! The site is located about 30 minutes from Whitehorse along the South Klondike Highway.
“With 12 territorially designated Yukon Historic Sites and more than 4,000 historic resources listed in the Yukon Historic Sites Inventory, the territory is home to a range of historic places. The Yukon government is pleased to co-own and co-manage several historic sites with Yukon First Nations, a unique example in Canada.
“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I wish to recognize and thank the knowledgeable and dedicated people who work to preserve and showcase the Yukon’s diverse heritage and cultures.
“During Historic Places Days, and year-round, I encourage Yukoners and travellers to visit the Yukon’s historic places to gain a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage and to be inspired to preserve and protect them for future generations.”
