Statement from Minister Mostyn on Special Olympics Yukon’s performance at the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn has issued the following statement:

“From July 10 to 13, Special Olympics Team Yukon 25 proudly represented the territory at the Special Olympics BC Summer Games in Prince George.

“Team Yukon sent 38 athletes, coaches and mission staff to the games and competed in athletics, bocce, golf, soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, powerlifting and swimming.

“Our Special Olympics athletes showed exemplary teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship to their competitors. I congratulate them all on their success at the games and for being true ambassadors of sport for our territory.

“A big thank you to the coaches and mission staff. The countless hours they dedicate to our athletes ensure they are well prepared for both the triumphs and challenges that a major sporting event like this brings.

“The athletes' efforts paid off as the Yukon earned six gold, seven silver and six bronze medals. Regardless of whether they reached the podium, every athlete gave their all and represented the territory with pride. Their determination, teamwork and spirit were evident throughout the entire competition.

“Congratulations, everyone!”
