Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“Today, I join Yukoners in celebrating a significant milestone in our Territory’s policing history as we formally recognize the Change of Command for the Yukon RCMP. I am honoured to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Chief Superintendent Lindsay Ellis on her appointment as the Commanding Officer of the Yukon RCMP, marking a historic moment as the first woman to hold this respected and valued position in the Territory.

“Chief Superintendent Ellis brings with her over 12 years of dedicated service in the Yukon in various capacities, demonstrating unwavering commitment to public safety and community wellbeing.

“With more than 24 years of experience in law enforcement, Chief Superintendent Ellis has held numerous leadership roles within ‘M’ Division, including Officer in Charge of the Whitehorse Detachment and Criminal Operations Officer. Her commitment and exemplary work have been instrumental in modernizing policing services, enhancing public safety and fostering meaningful relationships with Yukon First Nations governments, enhancing trust and accountability in policing across the territory. She has been recognized with the RCMP Long Service Medal, the King Charles Coronation Medal for her contributions to reconciliation and a Commander Commendation for Outstanding Service.

“As we celebrate this new chapter, I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to former Commanding Officer Chief Superintendent Scott Sheppard for his impactful tenure and visionary leadership that helped shape the RCMP’s presence in the Yukon. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the Yukon RCMP and the communities they serve.

“I look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Yukon RCMP under Chief Superintendent Ellis’ leadership as we work together to ensure safe, healthy and inclusive communities across the territory.”
