Minister of Justice and Attorney General Laura Lang has issued the following statement:
“Every January, we recognize National Crime Stoppers Month and the important role Crime Stoppers Yukon plays in helping keep our communities safe.
“Crime Stoppers Yukon is a community-based, police cooperative program that gives people a safe way to anonymously share information about crime or potential crime in their community. This option matters – especially when someone is worried about repercussions, unsure whether what they know is important, or simply wants to do the right thing without being identified.
“Tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online through crimestoppersyukon.ca. Crime Stoppers Yukon also offers the possibility of a cash reward of up to $2,000 when information leads to key outcomes such as an arrest, recovery of stolen property or seizure of illegal substances.
“Crime Stoppers Yukon is a non-profit, charitable organization that relies on support from volunteers and community partners. These dedicated individuals help raise funds and distribute rewards to those who provide valuable tips. Their ongoing commitment is essential to the success of the program and we deeply appreciate the important work they do to keep our communities safe.
“The Government of Yukon is proud to provide funding support to the Crime Stoppers Board that helps the program operate effectively, and to support public awareness campaigns underway. This includes the development of Crime Stoppers road signs translated into traditional languages and new work on French signage within the City of Whitehorse.
“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, thank you to the volunteers, partners and community members who support Crime Stoppers Yukon – and to everyone who chooses to safely share information that can prevent harm and support safer communities for all Yukoners.”
