Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate Laura Lang has issued the following statement:
“Today, the Franco-Yukon flag is raised in front of the Jim Smith Building, marking Yukon Francophonie Day.
“The Government of Yukon is proud to support a thriving Francophonie and to see Yukon Francophonie Day firmly rooted in Yukon traditions. While this day is celebrated once a year since 2007, the contributions and vitality of the Yukon’s growing Francophone community are felt year-round.
“This special day is an opportunity to celebrate more than a language. It recognizes the people, stories and collective efforts that have contributed to shaping the Yukon and continue to strengthen its cultural, social and economic fabric.
“It is a pleasure to work with our community partners to promote the Yukon’s vibrant Francophonie and advance bilingual services across the territory.
“I invite all Yukoners to take part in the celebrations and join in recognizing the important role Francophonie plays in making our territory such a vibrant and inclusive place to live.
“Happy Yukon Francophonie Day!”
