Statement from Minister Istchenko on the 2025 Yukon Outfitters Ball

Minister of Environment Wade Istchenko has issued the following statement:

“I am pleased to recognize the Yukon Outfitters Association for bringing the 2025 Outfitters Ball back to Haines Junction. This annual gathering is an important celebration of the Yukon’s outfitting community and returning it to Kluane highlights the deep connections between our people, our culture and the land we care for.

“Last weekend's event brought together residents, guides and community partners to honour the traditions of outfitting, recognize outstanding contributions and celebrate the unique heritage of the region. It was inspiring to see so many come together in support of wildlife stewardship, rural economies and outdoor traditions in the Yukon.

“I was honoured to be designated as the Master of Ceremonies and present the Yukon Outfitters Association Heritage Award to Rod Collin, in recognition for his decades of contribution to the Yukon’s outfitting tradition and stewardship of the land. Recognizing the dedication and skill of long-time guides reinforces the value of experience, mentorship and responsible management of our lands and wildlife.

“Events like this are a reminder that Yukoners’ livelihoods and communities are closely tied to the care of our natural environment. Thank you to the Yukon Outfitters Association, volunteers, performers, sponsors and everyone who contributed to a successful evening. The continued support for local communities, including Haines Junction, reflects the strength and resilience of the Yukon’s rural regions.

“I also acknowledge that this celebration took place on the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations. Their stewardship of the land and waters is integral to the rich heritage and ongoing sustainability of the region.”
