The Government of Yukon is inviting Whitehorse residents to share their views on the potential location of the new École Whitehorse Elementary School through a public engagement process.
Yukoners can take part in an online survey to share feedback on three possible site options for the new school. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and will gather input on location considerations to help inform the government’s decision making. The survey will remain open from February 25 to April 26.
The Department of Education will also host in-person public information sessions in Whitehorse during the week of March 23 to 27. These sessions will give community members a chance to learn more about the project, ask questions and share feedback directly with project staff.
Public information sessions will be held on:
- March 24 at Hidden Valley Elementary School from 6 to 8 pm;
- March 25 at CSSC Mercier from 6 to 8 pm; and
- March 26 at Elijah Smith Elementary School from 6 to 8 pm.
In addition to these public engagement opportunities, the department will continue targeted discussions with key partners and stakeholders, including the school community, Yukon First Nations governments, the City of Whitehorse, affected organizations and other interest groups. This will help ensure a broad range of perspectives are heard.
Public engagement will conclude on April 26. A What We Heard report summarizing feedback from all engagement activities will be shared publicly in June.
We know that choosing the right location for a new school matters deeply to families, neighbours and the broader community. This engagement is about listening and taking the time to understand the needs of the school community and Yukoners. By sharing perspectives through the survey or at an information session, you are helping shape a decision that will support students and communities for generations to come.
