Premier Dixon brings the Yukon’s priorities to Ottawa

Partnerships with the federal government and other jurisdictions throughout Canada are key to furthering the Yukon’s priorities and building a better territory for all Yukoners.

To this end, Premier Currie Dixon travelled to Ottawa to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney and other Premiers from across Canada to discuss concrete actions to build a more prosperous territory and country. Council of the Federation and First Ministers’ Meeting discussions focused on Canada’s trade relationship with the United States, advancing trade diversification, opportunities for defence industrial capacity, strengthening Canada’s domestic economy, reducing barriers to internal trade, restoring public safety and ensuring energy security and affordability.

Premier Dixon also met with key federal Ministers to advance issues of importance to Yukoners and outline the Government of Yukon’s focus on energy security, health care infrastructure, critical minerals development and creating the conditions to enable the private sector to grow.

In a separate meeting with the Prime Minister, Premier Dixon underscored the significant financial pressures the new Government of Yukon has inherited and ways they can work together to improve the lives of Yukoners.

I am happy for this opportunity to connect and work with the Prime Minister, Premiers and federal Ministers on decisive actions and solutions that matter most to Yukoners. This was my first in-person opportunity to share some of the challenges Yukoners face and to highlight the many opportunities we have ahead to chart a new way forward for our territory. These interactions are pivotal as we work to deliver on the changes that Yukoners have asked of us.
