The Government of Yukon announces recipients of the 2025 Robert E. Leckie Awards

Recipients of the 2025 Robert E. Leckie Awards were announced yesterday evening at the 53rd Annual Geoscience Forum & Trade Show banquet.

NBC Contracting received the Excellence in Environmental Stewardship in placer mining award for reclamation work at Henderson Creek, including remediation of disturbances from historical mining.

Hecla Mining received the Excellence in Environmental Stewardship in quartz mining award for ongoing reclamation of the United Keno Hill Mine site through the Elsa Reclamation and Development Corporation under an agreement with the Government of Canada.

Snowline Gold received the Responsible and Innovative Exploration and Mining Practices award for ongoing reclamation activities, expanded environmental baseline surveys and ongoing seeding trials. In 2025, Snowline Gold invested over $1 million in reclamation efforts and environmental monitoring programs.

  • The Robert E. Leckie Awards are given to individual mining operators and mining companies for demonstrated excellence in environmental stewardship, outstanding social responsibility, and leadership and innovation in mining practices.

  • The awards are given in honour of Robert (Bob) E. Leckie, a Mayo mining inspector and innovator who was dedicated to the development of progressive land use practices for mining.

  • The selection committee includes the Government of Yukon, Yukon Chamber of Mines and Klondike Placer Miners’ Association.
