An exhibition featuring the nine new works added to the Yukon Permanent Art Collection (YPAC) is now open in the Yukon Energy Community Gallery at the Yukon Arts Centre.

Entitled Held in Motion, the exhibition features a wide range of media including beadwork, painting, sculpture and textile from artists Mary Beattie, Mary Blahitka, Minnie Clark, Erin Dixon, Sho Sho Esquiro, Teaka Lewis-Clark, Calvin Morberg, Nathalie Parenteau and Eila Vallevand.

The exhibition will be on display until November 14. Works from the YPAC exhibition can also be viewed at foypac.ca

The Government of Yukon is proud to support this exhibition and to celebrate the newest additions to the Yukon’s Permanent Art Collection. These works expand the diversity of voices represented in the collection and reflect the richness of our shared experiences. Together they bring additional vibrancy, perspective and inspiration to the Yukon’s cultural landscape. It is a joy to share these important new works and we extend our warmest congratulations to each of these immensely talented artists on this achievement. Woot woot!

Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker

The Friends of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection are excited about this year’s acquisitions, a diverse selection of traditional and innovative techniques from both seasoned and emerging artists. We are grateful and proud to have them become part of an enduring legacy of artistic development in the Yukon. Thank you to the artists for stepping forward and to the Yukon government for having the foresight to fund such a worthwhile endeavour.

Friends of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection President Catherine Constable

I am so excited to have three pieces of my art installation Disco Highway become a part of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection. Living in a remote community makes you appreciate the lifeline that our highways create for us. Creating Disco Highway was a way for me to pay tribute to our highways and also connect with others through our common experience of driving around the Yukon.

Quick facts
  • Each year, the Government of Yukon acquires new art for the Yukon Permanent Art Collection through a call for submissions open to Yukon, Canadian and international artists working in a wide variety of disciplines and at varying career stages.

  • Acquisitions are selected by the Friends of Yukon Permanent Art Collection (FOYPAC) through an arms-length adjudication process. FOYPAC is a non-profit society made up of artists, art professionals and community members dedicated to the continued growth of the collection. This year’s selections were made from 155 submissions by 72 artists.

  • The 2025–26 call for submissions will be announced this fall. The deadline for submissions will be January 31, 2026.

  • Held in Motion is proudly co-exhibited with the 2025 Yukon Prize finalists and Expressions of Colour by Phoenix Cairns.
