Construction on the new Dawson City Recreation Centre is underway this spring, following a land blessing ceremony at the site of the future facility.
When completed, this facility will have a skating rink, curling sheets, a fitness centre, a multi-purpose room, a community kitchen and a walking loop. It will also have air conditioning and a backup generator.
For summer 2026, the focus will be on completing civil works including foundation construction and water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure. The installation of structural steel columns is anticipated to start in September. Work will continue for the building’s envelope throughout winter 2026.
Residents can expect increased truck traffic and some noise and dust. The Government of Yukon asks the public to follow any signage or safety direction from crews on site.
