Feedback gathered through the online engagement and in-person events were consolidated into a What We Heard report.
The Government of Yukon is developing flood hazard maps for all Yukon communities that are at risk of flooding. This engagement focuses on draft maps for Dawson and the Klondike Valley. The study area includes:
- approximately 16 kilometres of the Yukon River around Dawson; and
- 55 kilometres of the Klondike River, from the Dempster Highway bridge to where it meets the Yukon River.
These maps show how different flood scenarios could affect the surrounding land and infrastructure. The maps are made from:
- detailed surveys; and
- computer models.
The feedback we received helped validate the results and informed refinements to the presentation of information on the maps. This included information that validates the extent of mapped flood areas, further detail being provided on the data sources and their limitations.
