We’ll release the final flood hazard maps for Dawson City and the Klondike Valley on the Government of Yukon’s Flood Hub. It’ll be available to the public by December 2025.
The Government of Yukon is developing flood hazard maps for all Yukon communities that are at risk of flooding. This engagement focuses on draft maps for Dawson and the Klondike Valley. The study area includes:
- approximately 16 kilometres of the Yukon River around Dawson; and
- 55 kilometres of the Klondike River, from the Dempster Highway bridge to where it meets the Yukon River.
These maps show how different flood scenarios could affect the surrounding land and infrastructure. The maps are made from:
- detailed surveys; and
- computer models.
Your feedback will help ensure that the final flood hazard maps for Dawson City and the Klondike Valley are accurate and reflect:
- local knowledge;
- Traditional Knowledge; and
- lived flood experiences in the area.
Once we finalize the flood hazard maps, they’ll be used by the public and all levels of government to make informed decisions regarding:
- flood preparation and mitigation;
- land use planning; and
- emergency management.
